First up we are going to look at a great party game for ages 6 years old and up called “Stinky Pig.” With a name like that, it sure sparked our interest, and we were not disappointed. “Stinky Pig” is actually a squeezable pink pig that stands just over 4 inches in height. When you press on his belly, he hums a version of “pop goes the weasel” which ends with a short but very identifiable toot. The toot, of course, is intended to sound very much like the audible discharge of intestinal gas. We all know the sound.
To play the game, players should sit in a circle, with the youngest player starting the game by pressing on the pig’s belly and rolling a special die to determine which direction to pass the pig, or whether to roll again. After the pass, the next player quickly rolls the die, and passes the pig or rolls again, all of this being done as rapidly as possible. This continues from player to player until the toot is heard, with the player holding the pig when the toot is heard required to take one of the 20 game tokens. Once a player collects 3 tokens, the game ends and the winner is the player holding the fewest tokens. The pig does require two AA batteries, but both are included, and they can easily be replaced when needed. “Stinky Pig” can be played by two or more players, but we found it to be the most fun with 4-6 players. Kids and adults alike will enjoy playing this one. Look for it at the Patch Products website for just $11.99.
The second item in our double feature is the Mirari “Bouncy Bop” shape sorter distributed by Patch Products. This toy is intended for children ages 12 months old and up, and features a plastic dome standing about 8 inches in height with a clear rounded top measuring 25 inches around. Six shapes, each a different color, including a square, star, cylinder, pentagon, heart and triangle all fit perfectly in their own pre-cut holes atop the dome. Once any or all of the shapes are inside “Bouncy Bop,” there is a lever or paddle, along the outside bottom of the toy, that can easily be pushed up and down, which sends the shapes bouncing all over the base of the dome. There is also an easy to remove hatch door along the side of the dome, allowing easy removal of the shapes when desired.
“Bouncy Bop” not only teaches shape sorting, like a traditional shape sorter, but it also creates a surprise, when the shapes begin to bounce as well. This will be an immediate attention grabber and smart educational toy for every little one out there. “Bouncy Bop” retails for $29.99 and can also be purchased at the Patch Products website.
