“My Friend Teddy” is a soft squeezable Teddy Bear that measures just under 12″ tall in a seated position. Our review Teddy featured tan fur, a blue short-sleeved shirt, brown eyes, brown nose and a cute tuft of golden hair atop his head. The most exciting thing about “My Friend Teddy” is that he can be customized to speak, tell stories, play games and memorize lots of facts input by its owner. Here’s how to set things up……
First, you need a smart devise, like an iPhone, iPad, or comparable Android devise.
Second, download the free “My Friend Teddy” app to your smart devise.
Third, find the control panel on the back of Teddy. It is located underneath a strip of Velcro. Open the panel with a small screwdriver, insert 3 AA batteries (not included), select the language of your choice (English, French or Spanish) and slide the on/off switch to on.
Fourth, Teddy will now talk (his mouth moves in sync with the words spoken) by either pushing the touch sensor on his belly, or just by moving him around.
Fifth, Pair Teddy up to your smart devise using the Bluetooth settings on your devise.
Sixth, Click on the app on your smart devise, and “My Friend Teddy” will be ready to perform all of his tricks.
From the home page, click on the purple settings button in the lower right hand corner. There are two very important settings that must be set to get all of the benefits from “My Friend Teddy.” The first is the “Age Adjustment” setting ( a really neat feature), allowing parents to set one of three age levels for “My Friend Teddy,” starting at 2 years old and then up. The next one is the “Child Information” setting, where the app stores 50 key pieces of information about the user (child), including the child’s name, age, birthday, siblings’ names, favorite things, and many others.
To get Teddy to begin talking using all of the information now in his memory, simply tap the large blue “talk” caption on the home page. From here, Teddy can also tell multiple stories, sing songs and start learning activities (puzzles, movements, animal identification). Finally, you can add even more family/friend information in a album section. All of that new information also goes into Teddy’s memory.
We were astonished that Teddy could recall and use all of the new facts when talking. A young child will be amazed that Teddy knows so much about him or her. We really found “My Friend Teddy” to be a leap forward in interactive toys. Instead of trying to communicate directly with Teddy (as with many other such toys), a young child can simply listen to what amounts to a data base of everything known about him or her. Since mom or dad input all of the information, the child is thoroughly entertained and gets lots smarter too. Genesis Toys has recommended “My Friend Teddy” for ages 2 years old and up, and that makes sense to us.
“My Friend Teddy” retails for just under $40.00 and can be purchased at Walmart stores and at the Walmart on-line site.
