Griddly HeadZ Baseball Game – a Zany Crazy Sports Game

Griddly Games, Inc. was founded in 2007 by Reisa Schwartzman, a mom from British Columbia, Canada. Her goal was to create interactive family games that promoted both fun and laughter. We at “Toys Bulletin” were lucky to get a hold of several of their games.
Griddly HeadZ Baseball Game – a Zany Crazy Sports Game

First, let’s look at the “Griddly HeadZ Baseball Game.” As frequent readers know, the staff at “Toys Bulletin” loves sports games of all types. Yet, we had never experienced anything quite like this one before. After reading the rules, we couldn’t believe what we had just read, so we had to read them once again.
The game comes with a colorful playing board, 4 team sets of 6 players each, 4 uniformed player puzzle pieces, 3 sets of 20 play cards and two small plastic bats and balls. With those materials to start with, you know you are in for something special. We first played the game among our staff, so that we could fully experience the “Griddly HeadZ Baseball Game,”prior to testing on a focus group.

There is only one way to win the game, that being the first person to score 10 runs. However, there are two ways to lose the game, if you forfeit 12 pieces of your uniform, or if 4 of your players are ejected from the game.

The game can be played with 2-4 players, ages 8 and up. Each player chooses one team and moves up to 3 of their players on alternating turns around the playing board, based on a roll of dice. If opposing players land on the same square, a fight occurs, with one likely losing a piece of their uniform. Players may also have to draw umpire cards, foul ball cards, and home run cards that yield various results, some good, some bad. There is also a space requiring each player to actually bunt a plastic ball, with the provided bat, right on the playing board, with the player bunting its ball closest to the pitcher’s mound earning a run or two.

Each team has 4 regular players each named “Scrappy,” a nasty looking female catcher, called “Mae,” who can do pretty much whatever she wants, and a skinny pitcher named “Studdly Mann,” who can earn extra runs in certain situations. There are lots more crazy rules and even some alternate ways to play the game.

We tested the game on a combination teen/adult focus group, mostly male. We played the game several times, with 4 players each time. At first, there was confusion as to how to play, and interpret the many unusual rules, but once everyone figured them out, there was laughter beyond what even we had expected. The focus group did not want to stop playing this addictive wild game. In our opinion, the folks at Griddly Games, Inc. have created an interactive masterpiece in the world of sports board games. The “Griddly HeadZ Baseball Game” retails for $29.99, and can be purchased at
