GobbleStones – Be Greedy & Earn Winning Points

ToysBulletin.com reviews a fun family game from R&R Games, Inc.

GobbleStones 1The staff at Toys Bulletin really got into “GobbleStones” from R&R Games. It was simple to play, easy to set up and strategic as well. The game plays in around 30 minutes and is suggested for 2-4 players ages 10 years old and up.

“GobbleStones” includes 100 small colored tiles (5 different colors of 20 each). The tiles measure about ¾” square, and each fits nicely onto any of the 25 colored and numbered stone images on the 9 doubled-sided board squares. There is also a nice pad of score sheets, 4 plastic tile racks and a tile bag.

To get things started. the 9 board squares are randomly placed in a 3 x 3 matrix in the center of the table. Either side of a board square can be used. Once in place, the combined display (game board) reveals a total of 225 square stone images (15 x 15), in 5 different colors, with each square ranging in value from 2-5. All of the game tiles are placed inside the tile bag, and each player takes 5 tiles from the bag and positions them on one of the tile racks, making sure their opponent(s) cannot see their tiles.

GobbleStones 2Player alternate turns trying to place up to 5 of their tiles on the newly created game board. The tiles must be placed on a matching color and the tiles must follow a straight line path (orthogonal). Tiles cannot be placed just anywhere, as they must each be adjacent to an existing tile. Players are allowed to place 0-5 tiles, depending on the game board and their strategic plan. Once tiles are placed, new tiles are drawn to replace those tiles bringing a player’s tile total back up to five. The key to success in playing “GobbleStones” is the point value shown on the individual square stone images. The winner of the game will be the player who covers the highest value of points before all of the tiles are removed from the tile bag.

“GobbleStones” is great fun from start to finish. It is competitive and moves extremely quickly. The playing board is never the same, as the double-sided game boards provide an ever changing array of possibilities. “GobbleStones” is a great family game experience where players get lots of chances to gobble up those extra stone squares and earn valuable extra points.

“GobbleStones” retails for $19.99 and can be purchased directly from the R&R Games website.
