Fast Flip – Quick Recognition Will Win the Game

ToysBulletin.com looks at a new challenge from Blue Orange Games.

Fast Flip 1In the tradition of the “Spot It” series of games, Blue Orange has released a great new family game entitled “Fast Flip.” It arrives nicely packaged in the traditional Blue Orange metal tin, and includes 54 triangular playing cards, 10 game tokens and a set of rules. The object of the game is to be the first to identify and find the match between images shown on two different playing cards. “Fast Flip” has been designed for 2-8 players ages 7 years old and up.

Each of the playing cards is two sided. One side shows a variety of 15 images of 5 different fruits, and the other side shows either a number from 1-5 or a single picture of one fruit. The 10 game tokens, which are used for different versions of the game, are either numbered or contain images of the 5 fruits.

Fast Flip 2To begin the basic game, the playing cards are shuffled and placed facedown in the center of the table, making certain that the side with the 15 fruit images is the facedown side. It is also important that all players can easily see the playing cards from their position around the table. The top card is turned face up and placed next to the pile, and all players then simultaneously try to match the face up card with the new top card on the pile (either a number or a single fruit). If the top card is a fruit, players must quickly try to determine how many of that fruit are shown on the face up card. If the top card is a number (1-5), players must find the single fruit shown that number of times on the face up card. The first player to shout out the correct answer scores a point, and is given that face up card. Any players who give wrong answers are eliminated from that round of play. Play continues until all cards are exhausted, and the player with the most points (face up cards) is declared the winner.

Fast Flip 3There are several game variations which use the 10 token cards. For example, instead of simply shouting out the correct answer, players must grab the correct token (which are spread out around the table) to win a round. The interesting part of this variation is that players can steal tokens from other players, if an answer to a subsequent match happens to be a token taken on a previous round. The first player to gain 4 tokens is the winner. Another game variation involves using the 10 token cards (one at a time) to determine the match, rather than the top card on the draw pile. Players may also be able to come up with some unique new ways to play on their own.

We also want to mention that the 5 fruits displayed on the playing cards are of different sizes, and they all look a bit similar, which presents a great little challenge when playing the game. Overall, “Fast Flip” was a fun entertaining game experience that can be played in less than 30 minutes, and it is sure to be a family favorite for years to come.

“Fast Flip” retails for $12.99 and can be purchased directly from the Blue Orange website.
