New Doll Reviews: Fancy Nancy & Pinkalicious from Madame Alexander – Cloth Dolls Made For Play reviews 18” Dolls from Madame Alexander.

Madame Alexander was 28 years old when she founded her own doll company in New York.  Her goal was to create a sense of excitement, wonderment and quality with her handcrafted dolls.  Today, the company still follows that same vision, and Toys Bulletin is excited to look at two cloth dolls from the Play Alexander collection.

Fancy Nancy” is an 18” cloth doll based on the character from the popular book series by Jane O’Connor.  This doll projects a love of adventure and a sense of individualism.  She also has a unique sense of style and is not afraid to mix it up and try something new...

Zip-Itz Dolls – Time to Get Zany

“Zip-Itz” dolls are the creation of Playdin LLC, a relatively new company with what looks like a very bright future. To fully understand what this line of dolls is all about, we must start with a very creative back-story. It seems that during a ‘machinery malfunction’ at the Zany Zipper Factory, which normally produces handbags, wallets, jackets and boots, out popped an amazing array of cute creatures and suddenly “Zip-Its” dolls were born.  The entire collection contains 16 different dolls with distinctive personalities whose names all start with the letter Z.

Zee is the doll we chose to review.  He wears a green cap and is made of soft, felt-like cotton.  His body has bright hues of yellow and blue mixed with a playful patterned fabric for one of his arms and legs.  There are zippers at both mouth and tummy, which are rainbow colored with a star charm hanging from the clasp making for easy zipping and un-zipping.   According to “Playdin,” “Zee loves nothing more than napping with a good cuddly blanket and likes collecting buttons and analyzing sleep patterns...”

My Friend Huggles – A Truly Life-Size Doll

Kudos!  “My Friend Huggles” has created a unique concept. Imagine a huggable, lovable, soft life-sized doll your daughter will snuggle with, that can also teach her a special virtue. We are reviewing a doll named Sofia, one of six dolls in the original “My Friend Huggles” collection.  She stands 3 foot tall (approximately the height of an average 2-year-old) with blond hair that is reminiscent of a cabbage patch doll.  She dons cute pigtails and pink bows in her hair.  Sofia even wears an adorable little ruffled, turquoise nightgown featuring a ballerina image, complemented by matching slippers that are attached to her feet so they are not easily lost under the couch or in the toy box...

“Paradise Galleries” has presented a stinger of a collectible doll created by Pat Moulton. Known for its high standards of quality, Paradise Galleries has produced another one of a kind toddler.  "Bee" is a poseable doll whose gentle touch vinyl and cloth body makes you believe that this child could come to life.  The endearing "pouty" expression on her face lets you know that she is no longer a baby but a toddler with attitude.

"Bee My Honey Bear" catches your eye as soon as you open the exquisite collector's box and see the sunny yellow dress with sheer nylon tulle ruffled skirt; you know this doll is something special.  She measures 21 inches from head to toe, and her blond hair and blue eyes are very appropriate for this honey of a doll.  The "pouty" facial expression captures your attention immediately...

This task has not gotten any easier since we published our “Best of 2011” 12 months ago.  We see so many quality and exciting new products during the year, making it especially difficult to single out just a few standouts.  Plus, as mentioned last year, we cannot possibly test and review every toy and game released by every manufacturer in the past 12 months, so there is no doubt that we may have missed some good ones.

Here are the guidelines we follow in making our selections.  “The Best of 2012” is based solely on the toys and games that we have reviewed on our website from November 2011 through October 2012.  We have purposely excluded some older items, which may have been reviewed during that period, because that toy or game has been around for a number of years.  However, in some circumstances, we have also included an item that was new to us at Toys Bulletin, even though it may have been available for purchase prior to November 2011.

And most importantly, we kept with our mission statement of providing a list of the “Best Toys and Games You’ve Never Heard Of.”
