BraveRats: A Small Game That Plays Very Big

BraveRats 1ToysBulletin.com looks at a new card game from Blue Orange.

Toys Bulletin was pleased to discover a two-player game that can be played in just 5 minutes by kids as young as 8 years old. That game is “BraveRats,” a new release from Blue Orange that pits two clans of rats (Yargs and Applewoods) in head to head combat against each other, with the winner claiming control of the kingdom.

The game includes just 16 cards, two matching sets of 8 cards (one blue and one red) representing each of the two clans. The Yargs use the 8 blue cards and the Applewoods use the 8 red cards. The eight cards include a Musician, Princess, Spy, Assassin, Ambassador, Wizard, General and Prince. Each of the cards has a strength value from 0-7 with the Musician having the lowest value and the Prince having the highest. Each card also has a special power that is written along the bottom of the card.

“Toasted or Roasted” is a great summer family vacation game geared for 2-4 players ages 6 years old and up. First of all, the game is packaged in a most unique way, with all components arriving in a plastic bag with its own double zip-lock closure. The folks at Education Outdoors, Inc. indicated that the game is a perfect companion to have along on family camping trips and this type of packaging protects the game from rain. That made sense to us.

ToysBulletin.com Update – New Site and Content Migration

cropped-cropped-Toys1.gifThis site has been up and running for more than four years, and we have been asked by a few people why we have never updated the design. The short answer is that the site worked, and we’ve learned before that if something works online, don’t mess with it. But the time has finally come for a refresher, a new design and layout that provides a host of benefits for readers.

First of all this new site will load much faster. The previous site was code heavy and a bit of a patch work Frankenstein job that accumulated a lot of excess size over the years. This new site is optimized to run much faster.

Touring Card Game – An Old Favorite Gets an Update

New Touring 1ToysBulletin.com looks at a classic from Winning Moves Games.

Back in the 50s, one of my favorite games was “Touring,” put out by Parker Brothers, Inc. and referred to as the “Great Motoring Card Game.”  I actually still have the game, including the rules and all of the cards.  I have included two photos from that old game, just so our readers can see some of the changes that have taken place with the game of “Touring” in that 60 year span of time.

“Winning Moves Games” now distributes the latest version of “Touring” and it brought back some great memories.  The revised game also includes a few new ideas, which not only freshens the game play, but also actually increases the fun factor.

Card Game Review: Random Rummy 12 – A Winning Variation to an Old Favorite

ToysBulletin.com reviews the first game release from Krazy Kinfolk, LLC.

randomrummy12_2 It is always fun to play an old game in a new way, and even more fun if that game turns out to be even better than the original. I am talking about a new game from Krazy Kinfolk, LLC called “Random Rummy 12.”

The game was developed by a family who simply loves to play cards. They had played Rummy many times before, but soon found themselves developing their own rules and adding excitement to the old standby. This led to the creation of “Random Rummy 12,” a game produced entirely in the U.S.A.

Word Game Review: Fitz It – Find the Word that Fits

ToysBulletin.com reviews a party game from Gamewright.

???????????????????????????????Here is an easy to play word game that is perfect for your next party and it can accommodate loads of players’ ages 12 years old and up. “Fitz It” comes in a small little box and includes 265 cards, each 2” x 2”. On each card is written a short description of an object, and all of the cards are different. During the game, players try to name something, and it must be a noun, that fits the description on the cards.

Here is how the game is played. Each player draws 15 cards randomly from the deck and places them face down in front of them. The remaining cards are placed face down off to the side and serve as a draw pile. Next, each player draws 5 of the cards from his deck and these cards become his starting hand. Then one card is drawn from the draw pile and turned face up in the middle of the table.

Game Review: Trieste – Rule the City, Win the Game

ToysBulletin.com looks at a most unique 3-player game from Victory Point Games.

????????????????????We must begin this review by saying upfront that this is a standout game. There are elements introduced in this game that we have never seen before and they all work perfectly. “Trieste” the game gets it name from the actual city of Trieste, located in northeastern Italy. It is an important historical region, rich with culture and wealth, blending perfectly with key components from the game itself.

Keep in mind that “Trieste” is a 3-player game only. 2 players cannot play it, nor can it be played with 4 or more players. That fact, in itself, might deter many potential buyers from purchasing this game, but if they pass on this one, they will have made a huge mistake. Do what you have to and find 3 players.
