Buggaloop – Watch Out for the Hexbug

ToysBulletin.com reviews another great game from Ravensburger.

buggaloop 1“Buggaloop” is a perfect family game. It provides friendly competition for all ages with an easy to navigate playing surface and very simple rules.

The game arrives with 12 bugs, a 3-D yard, a special Hexbug® Nano V2® (powered by an included LR44 button battery), a game board and 1 six-sided die. The game is designed for 2-4 players, ages 6 years old and up, and set up is a breeze.

The object of the game is to be the first player to get their assigned bugs successfully across the game board to safety by simply rolling the die, moving the number of spaces shown on the die and staying on course. But, there is a pesky Hexbug running loose and it can knock a player’s bugs off course, causing them to return to start and begin again. The Hexbug creates a fun dynamic and continues to raise the level of drama and energy each time it bears its plastic antennas.

buggaloop 2We play tested “Buggaloop” with a family focus group consisting of a four year old and six year old, along with two eager parents. After a little bit of guidance and support both kids were up and playing with mom and dad in just a few minutes. We noticed immediately that the adults were having as much fun as their children.

We were also pleasantly surprised to see how often the Hexbug made its appearance on the game board. It was so much fun seeing the kids’ intensity, as well as the parents’ anxiety each time the Hexbug re-entered the game. Would a player’s bugs be affected and sent back to start, or would they continue on their journey? We heard the exclamation “Oh No!” as bugs were knocked out of action, and could see the look of relief when a player’s bugs survived, for at least another few minutes.

We would definitely recommend this game to any family with young kids looking for a fun experience. “Buggaloop” is not only exciting but also teaches kids the basics of boardgames and even works on their counting skills.

“Buggaloop” retails for $29.99 and can be purchased directly from the Ravensburger website.
